Ile de Oleron - Self Catering Holiday Gite with Pool Chérac Charente Maritime South West France
Ile de Oleron is a beautiful Charentaise island, France's largest Island after Corsica, and is reached by a (toll-free) bridge. It has long sandy beaches bordered with pine forests which are perfect for families, and some are secluded even in summer. In the east, the salt marshes have been converted into oyster beds. Inland you'll find vineyards and white painted villages adorned with mimosa, oleander and tamarisk which flourish in this wonderful climate. This area boasts the best climate in France. It is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a similar number of hours of sunshine to the Cote d'Azur, but the sea breeze prevents the heat from becoming excessive in the summer.
