Rochefort is an ancient port made up of wide boulevards. In the 19th century, wealthy cognac merchants knocked down part of the town to accommodate the more grandiose facades of private hotels, administrative buildings and shops.
The town houses the largest collection of Begonia's in France and now Rochefort holds an English music festival, which is host to known and unknown artists.
A visit to Rochefort is a lovely treat as it has a handsome port to stroll through, shopping and good restaurants, events are on-going, information can be collected at the tourist office.
